Is it worth it to buy an 8K TV for a console?

It takes approx. 3 minutes to read this article

TVs available on the market are increasingly interesting proposals that can surprise with their capabilities. As a result, many people, including console game lovers, are wondering – is an 8K TV the right choice? We suggest.

What are 8K TVs? Will they work well for consoles?

When it comes to TVs, there are a number of parameters. One of them is resolution, which informs the user about the number of pixels that make up the image displayed on the TV. A pixel, in turn, is called the smallest part of the image, containing a particular detail or color. The higher the resolution, the more detail is therefore contained in the image shown. Consequently, the content displayed is much more detailed, and therefore more pleasing to the viewer’s eye.

8K is a very high resolution of 7680×4320 pixels. This is 16 times more pixels than, for example, a 1080p TV. Many people, tempted by the potentially outstanding picture quality, plan to buy an 8K TV. It turns out, however, that because it is a relatively new standard, not very much of the content displayed at present can actually exploit the potential of these TVs. So is it worth investing in such a solution if we usually use the TV when we play games on a console?

Introduction of HDMI 2.1 standard

One of the important elements that should be mentioned is the increasingly common HDMI 2.1 connector. It turns out that this is a standard that allows data transfer at 48 Gbit/s. Thanks to this, a TV equipped with a connector of this kind, hooked up to a console, can display images at resolutions as high as 8K.

However, this is not the case with any console. Only the latest-generation mods, such as the PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, are devices that can support 8K 60 Hz signals thanks to the HDMI 2.1 standard. Unfortunately, this does not mean that the ability to support such a resolution will entail gameplay displayed in such excellent quality as we would like. Very little content with such high resolution as 8K is currently being created – so one might be tempted to say that investing in an 8K TV, if you want to use it for console gaming, might not be the best decision at this point.

Which console TV is worth choosing?

Since there are already some titles available on the market that allow gameplay in 4K resolution and 120 frames per second, it pays to choose a TV with at least 4K resolution. This is a resolution that allows you to receive content of extremely good quality, detailed and enjoyable to watch. It’s a great choice whether you want to use your TV and console for gaming or movie screenings. 4K TVs are becoming increasingly popular, and as a result, much cheaper. A previously impossible expense may therefore now be within our price range.

8K televisions may certainly appeal to discerning viewers, but it appears that their proper use may be difficult until the provision of quality content enters everyday use. It may therefore be worth looking around among devices with a slightly lower resolution, but equipped with other features that are useful to us.
